Reversed City
Start of work: 2002

Pignatelli approaches the most important contemporary metropolises, with the aim of representing their common features that best characterize the human being. The intention is that of transforming these metropolises into a single huge global city, in the post-modern sense of the term.
The views of cities undergo a special printing process in negative so as to create a colour and light transformation that freezes the images in a metaphysical dimension in which one loses track of time and memory.
The photographic image is no longer a mirror of the surrounding world, but is rather an expression and interpretation of it. Thus, Pignatelli offers us a more profound reading of reality, which seeks to be complete, but is neither idealized nor idealistic — it is, in other words, capable of detecting its obscure, hidden and unexpressed aspects.
